Air source heat pump rebates

Project type What it means Standard rebate Moderate-income rebate
Full displacement, cold-climate heat pump (ccASHP) A NEEP-listed cold-climate heat pump becomes your home's heating system and replaces the fossil-fuel system Lesser of $10,000 or 50% of project cost for the largest system Lesser of $12,000 or 60% of project cost for the largest system
Partial displacement / dual-fuel, ccASHP A NEEP-listed cold-climate heat pump works with your existing gas, oil, or propane system as backup. Integrated controls required Up to $5,000 or 50% of project cost for the largest system Up to $6,000 or 60% of project cost for the largest system
Partial displacement, standard heat pump (ASHP) A standard air source heat pump that meets the program minimums, used with your existing system Up to $2,000 or 30% of project cost Up to $4,000 or 40% of project cost

How "lesser of" works: you get the percentage of your project cost, unless that number is higher than the cap. Then you get the cap.

Add-on rebates

Add-on Amount Available with
Re-ducting 50% of itemized costs, up to $2,000 (when a Manual D duct design calls for it; proof of re-ducting required) Full displacement only
Decommissioning your old system 50% of itemized costs, up to $2,000 (decommissioning checklist required) Full displacement only
Each additional cold-climate heat pump in the home $2,000 per unit Cold-climate projects (full or dual-fuel). In a dual-fuel zone, the unit must be part of the integrated controls
Each additional standard heat pump in the home $750 per unit Cold-climate projects (full or dual-fuel). In a dual-fuel zone, the unit must be part of the integrated controls

Partial-displacement and dual-fuel projects do not get the re-ducting or decommissioning add-ons.

Equipment specs

These are the minimum ratings in the program application. Don't worry about memorizing them. We check every system against them before we quote.

Equipment SEER2 (cooling) HSPF2 (heating) Cold-weather rating Other
Ducted cold-climate heat pump Greater than 14.3 Greater than 7.7 COP greater than 1.75 at 5°F Must be NEEP-listed
Ductless cold-climate heat pump (mini-split) Greater than 15 Greater than 8.5 COP greater than 1.75 at 5°F Must be NEEP-listed
Any air source heat pump (minimum for all) 15.2 or higher 7.8 or higher n/a EER2 11.7 or higher

What's COP at 5°F? It means that when it's 5 degrees outside, the heat pump still delivers more than 1.75 units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses.

Heat pump water heater rebate

Equipment Requirement Rebate
Heat pump water heater UEF 3.3 or higher (240V) or UEF 2.2 or higher (120V) $750 per unit

Electric Ready rebates

Electric Ready rebates help with the electrical work a heat pump may need. They are only available when you're also installing a heat pump or another qualifying electrification measure. Comfort Now does electrical work in-house, so one team handles it all.

Customer What's covered
Not income-qualified Up to $300 per 240V circuit, up to 4 circuits, or $300 toward a panel upgrade
Income-qualified Full cost up to $4,000 for a panel upgrade (sized for the new equipment and a Level 2 EV charger where possible), plus up to $2,500 for wiring

Ground source (geothermal) heat pumps

The program application also lists rebates for ground source (geothermal) heat pumps. The geothermal rules are different from the air source rules, so call us and we'll confirm with the program whether your project qualifies before you count on a rebate. Learn more on our geothermal heat pumps page.

Moderate-income rebates

You may qualify for the higher moderate-income rebates if either of these is true:

1. Your home is in a low- to moderate-income census tract. Look up your address on the FFIEC census tract map, or we can check it with you.

2. Your household takes part in one of these programs:

  • General Assistance (GA)
  • Lifeline
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • New Jersey SHARES (NJ SHARES)
  • Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE)
  • Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD)
  • Section 8 Housing Assistance
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Universal Service Fund (USF)

You'll sign a short form confirming this information, and ACE may contact you later to verify it.

Financing through NEIF

The New Jersey Energy Investment Fund (NEIF) offers financing for Atlantic City Electric residential customers, up to $25,000 based on credit. When you use NEIF, the rebate is deducted from your job total, so you only finance what's left.

Credit score Financing amount
720 and up $2,500 to $25,000
700 to 719 Up to $20,000
680 to 699 Up to $15,000
640 to 679 Up to $10,000

Approval and terms are set by NEIF. See NEIF financing for ACE customers or visit our financing page.

How we handle it

  1. You call 609-400-1005 or book online. We confirm you're an ACE residential customer.
  2. We visit and design. We size the right system and check it against the program specs.
  3. You get a clear quote. The estimated rebate is shown as a line-item discount.
  4. We take before photos, install the system, and take after photos.
  5. You sign and share your ACE bill. That's your part.
  6. We submit everything. ACE asks you to allow about 60 days for processing after all information is received. If you assigned the rebate to us, you already got it as a discount on your invoice.

Rebate FAQ

Can the rebate be more than the cost of my equipment?

No. Under the program terms, rebate levels cannot exceed the cost of the equipment.

Which rebate amounts apply to my project?

Rebates are based on your installation date. The rules and rebate levels in effect on the day your equipment is installed are the ones that apply.

Can I get Electric Ready money without a heat pump?

No. Electric Ready rebates for circuits, wiring, and panel upgrades are only available when they are installed along with a heat pump or other qualifying electrification measure.

Will Atlantic City Electric inspect my installation?

It may. Atlantic City Electric and its program administrators can review installations to verify the work and program compliance. Reviews are scheduled at a time convenient to the customer.

Is the rebate taxable?

The program terms recommend that customers talk with a tax adviser about any tax questions related to receiving a rebate.
